Hermit Thrush Meets Bird Statue

I was taking advantage of a beautiful fall day by taking some photographs of the local Downy Woodpeckers.  The Downy Woodpeckers are so tolerant that you don’t need to hide from them when taking their photo – you can practically walk right up to them.  And with a long lens, you actually need to back up!!  So while photographing the Downy Woodpeckers in the back yard, I heard a different “chip” note, which I knew to be a thrush.  I looked in the direction of the sound, and standing on the water bath taking a drink is a migrant Hermit Thrush.

Here I am, completely out in the open and the Hermit Thrush decides to stop by and take a drink.  Slowly I turn the camera to hopefully get a photo before the thrush continues on his way south.  The photo reveals a fun juxtaposition between a bird statue and the real thing!!

And here’s a photo of one of the friendly Downy Woodpeckers surrounded in the colors of fall!
