A short post to show the very rare Connecticut bird, a Roseate Spoonbill. For Connecticut, I believe this is only the fourth recorded sighting. For normal US sightings, this bird is typically only seen in the very edges of the US gulf states. Quite a good bird for CT!
The bird was seen in Milford & Stratford CT for about a week before I tried for it.
I’d like to thank Frank Mantlik for posting about the bird earlier in the day, and for Jess (sorry, no last name, a bird surveyor) who flagged me down knowing I was looking for the previously reported bird. After walking a short distance through mud and calf-deep water I was able to see and photograph this beauty.
All photos taken handheld with a Canon R5 camera and the Canon RF 800mm f/11 lens. Two of the photos show the bird regurgitating – included to show this behavior for those interested. Click on any photo for larger size.
